Happy Birthday to My One and Only

 09.21.

22 years old.  I remember the day he turned 18 and I thought it was a big deal because he was officially an "adult".  I loved the feeling of dating someone so old, even though he is only 9 months older than me.  I've been reminiscing about Derick and I's relationship a lot lately.  It is weird to me to think I started liking him when I was only 15 years old, and him 16.  He is now 22.  A lot of time has  passed since then and so much has happened!  Let's start from the very beginning:
We have gone to school together since 6th grade.  We were never anything more than familiar faces to each other, though.  If we had seen each other outside of school at the grocery store we probably wouldn't have even said hi.  I do remember having a few classes with him and thinking he was hilarious.  But that is all it ever was.  Two people who went to the same school.  Nothing more.
Sophomore year was the year.  We had english class together, and he was officially funnier and cuter than I ever remembered him being.  We still weren't friends, but I liked the idea of becoming friends with him.  Second Tri rolled around and we had the same math class.  Our seating chart was in alphabetical order, so me being in the B's and Derick the C's we sat right across from each other.  I remember the first time we hit it off.  He was talking to his friend about The Office.  Now, I have always been shy around people I don't know, especially cute boys, and eavesdropping isn't something I get caught doing.  But I cut into the conversation and started talking about how I love The Office too, and how I happened to have all the seasons.  I didn't even notice how easy it was to talk to him, probably because I felt so at ease doing it.  After that day we slowly began talking more and more in our math and english class.  It took me forever to even recognize the fact I had feelings for him.  No, I didn't realize it when our math teacher changed the seating chart and I was devastated that we were no longer sitting by each other.  I even went through the trouble of telling the teacher I had to sit at the front of the class because of my eyesight (Derick was seated at the front of the class.. what are the odds!) No, I didn't realize I had feelings for him when my face would get all hot and I'd feel really uncomfortable every time I saw him flirting with other girls.  No, I didn't realize I liked him when my friend came right out and told me I had feelings for him (because I would never stop talking about him) and I immediately got super defensive saying "he's not my type, we're just friends".  No, I didn't realize I liked him even when I was on cloud 9 when he came to class and told me the entire story about him and his previous girlfriend breaking up the night before.  I don't know if I was in denial, or if I was completely clueless, but it took a very long time for me to finally say "I like Derick."  It wasn't until 3rd tri of sophomore year that we really hit it off.  We no longer had math together, but we would be sitting by each other every day, without fail, in our english class.  We always walked to lunch together, then went our own ways once we got to the cafeteria, and then we somehow ended up spending the rest of lunch together after we had eaten our lunch with our friends.  At one of the mini-dances at school he asked me to dance, and made me hug him twice afterwards-- I can't believe I remember all of this.
It took a long time but he finally asked me to "hang out".  We went to disturbia together and held hands almost the entire movie! Get out, right??? I was as twitter pated as it got.  We hung out two or three more times after that but as sophomore year came to an end we slowly drifted apart, and by the last day of school we were no longer even talking to each other.  I didn't know what had happened and I couldn't get him off of my mind no matter how hard I tried.  That entire summer was spent thinking about him.   Junior year rolled around and we talked to each other here and there, but things weren't the same as they were the previous year.  I dated around quite a bit, but at the end of the day Derick was the one that was on my mind.  I couldn't help it.  I even still had that hollow feeling when I saw him flirting with the numerous girls he always seemed to have surrounding him.
One day in the spring I was driving my friends home and I passed by Derick driving his car.  I had noticed it was him, but I was sure he hadn't noticed it was me.  Ten minutes later, though, I got a text and saw it was from him.  He asked if he had just passed by me in a red car.  This started our talking after probably 6 months of not saying a word to each other.  We texted a little every week and started talking quite a bit on Myspace.  He finally asked me to hang out again.  I definitely had my guard up because we had randomly stopped talking the last time and I didn't want to get in deeper than I already was and get hurt again, but I decided hanging out with him once wouldn't hurt.  We went and saw Iron Man in theaters, didn't hold hands or anything.  It was just like two friends hanging out.
I'm not sure how it happened but a couple of weeks later our groups of friends slowly started merging together.  All of us hung out almost every day the last week of school, and his friend decided he thought I was cute.  I remember Derick telling me his friend liked me and that he knew I was going to end up dating him.  I was so upset! I didn't want his friend to like me I wanted him to like me.  Derick seemed positive I was going to end up with his friend, he told me every time he saw me like he knew it for a fact.  My friend told me Derick must not like me because if he did he wouldn't be trying to set me up with his friend.  I was crushed.  I had been getting the vibe that Derick liked me too, but I couldn't get over what my friend had said. If he did like me why would he be trying to set me up with his friend?  I decided to get over the idea of Derick and I ever being together, this didn't mean I would get over him, just that I wouldn't have such high expectations when we would hang out.  It's a good thing I only had to have that mindset for a total of 24 hours.  On the last day of school  all of our friends got together up the canyon for a big bonfire.  Derick and I spent the entire night sitting next to each other flirting and talking.  When all of us decided to go straight up a mountain on a mini hike, I made sure I was standing next to Derick.  Going down the whole group held hands so we wouldn't fall, and when everyone let go me and Derick kept holding on.    It was that moment I knew everything was going to be ok.  Turns out he had liked me all along, and this night together had turned the flame into a fire. The next day I woke up and  Derick and I were no longer "friends". We were absolutely inseparable.  It took 9 days after that for him to ask me to be his girlfriend, and one week after that for him to finally kiss me.  We spent every single day of the summer together except for the week I was at dance camp and the week he was at soccer camp.  Of course we felt like we were dying all 14 days.  Senior year rolled around and we were still glued to the hip.  It didn't take long at all for me liking him to turn into me loving him.  I knew he was the boy I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, and I would do whatever it took.
The Fall after we graduated Derick got his mission call.  I was unbelievably excited for him to go on a mission, but I was numb.   I was so full of bittersweet emotions.  I wanted him to go out there and serve the lord, but I hated the thought of not having my best friend by my side for 2 years when I had been so used to spending every single waking second with him for an entire year and a half.   Sooner than I had wanted, it was time for Derick to leave.  Still to this day saying goodbye to him was the hardest thing I have ever done.  The hardest part was not knowing.  Every person left and right was saying "the girl never waits." I knew I had to.   I tried to stay as busy as I could.  I moved to Florida for 7 months to do an internship at Disney World.  After that I stayed busy by working full time, going to school full time, and going on the occasional vacation.   It took me 16 months before I was ready to start going on dates with other boys, and after going on maybe 2 dates a month, I decided by month 19 I was wasting my time, and the boys I went on dates with time. I knew Derick was the one I wanted, and dating wasn't even a fun thing for me to do to help pass the time, like many people had said it would be.  If anything it made me miss Derick more.  The constant comparisons to every boy who looked at me or talked to me were never good.  Other boys never stood a chance next to Derick.  He was still so perfect to me, even after not seeing him for months and months.

Finally December 2011 arrived.
741 days
105 weeks
24 months
1,097 emails
124 letters from me
and
84 letters from him
Later...

He came home.   Just like that.  Suddenly it felt like the 2 years without him by my side were nothing but a really bad dream.   It felt like all the days I felt would never end, the letters that took forever to arrive, the restless nights, the emotional breakdowns.. never happened.  I suddenly was 100% content with my life, and I forgot what it felt like to be unhappy.
When Derick came home he decided it would be best to date around a little.  He had prayed about it, and his mission president, and stake president had told him to do so.  Why would I say that people so in tune with the spirit were wrong in telling Derick to date around? I had dated around a little while he was gone, so now it was only fair he got to.  I was ok with this idea.  It turns out I ended up having to push Derick out the door to go on dates.  He said he would rather be spending time with me than with girls he didn't know, or care about, but I knew we couldn't be together until he had dating out of his system.   One month, and 3 dates later, Derick told me he was done with dating.  He said it was the biggest waste of time when he already knew I was the one he would end up with.
Four months after that we were engaged, and 3 months later sealed for time and all eternity.  I could not be happier about where I am in life.  It is hard to imagine I could love him more than I do now, but I know it is only going to get better from here.

I love Derick.  I love him.  I think all along I knew he was the one, and that is why I refused to give up on him.  I never got over him when we hardly talked for a year, and I hardly even tried to.  I am so glad everything played out the way it was supposed to. Everything happens for a reason.

and the rest is unwritten.  I can't wait to continue adding onto our story, and to see where life takes us.  I can't wait to start a family with him and see what an amazing father he will be.  I can't wait to grow old with him and see what an amazing grandfather he will be.  I can't wait to experience everything in my life with him.

May 11, 2012. Engaged!!

August 8, 2012 Sealed for time and all Eternity

Happy birthday, Derick! Just so you know I typed this up as a birthday gift for you and not just enjoyment for myself ;). I hope this is the best birthday of your life yet! Love you very very very very much. :)

homework.

I have a lot of homework.
This isn't my homework.
It is just a lot more appealing than my homework.
I am sitting here listening to Derick and his friend do their math.  I'm not even in math but I get stressed out at the thought of being in math.  That is how much I hate it.  I hate listening to them try to solve their equations.  I think it is giving me ulcers.  Just saying.
While at church today I misplaced my phone.  It was absolutely nowhere to be found, and there were only about 3 possible places it could be.  I couldn't find it! I was, of course, pretty frantic seeing as I am a little addicted to my phone and use it for everything.  After checking all the possible places it could be numerous times along with the lost and found every 20 minutes, I decided I couldn't look around all day and I would just have to go home and hope it showed up eventually.  I got to my parents and began a rant about how upset I was that I couldn't find my phone and my sister told me about the amazing iPhone finder online.  I had no idea this thing existed!! I logged into my iCloud account and soon found out my phone was still somewhere in the church, and someone hadn't walked away with it.  What a relief.  I then was able to lock my phone and leave a message on the screen saying "if found please call this number.." I then typed Derick's number.  Sorry, for those of you who think this iPhone finder is old news, but i'm tellin' ya.  Technology is amazing! I then set off an alarm so someone would notice my phone, look at it, and then call Derick's number.  I set off the alarm over and over again not knowing if it actually worked or not.  It just turns out my brother in-law goes to the same church building as me, 2 hours later, and had been informed of my phone missing.  As he was passing by the stake president's office he heard an alarm go off and went inside to go see what it was.  The stake president gladly handed over my phone and said it kept going off and he had no idea what to do with it! What luck i've had.  I love apple and their amazing ways, and I love that my brother in-law happened to take on the challenge of finding my phone, and I love my sister for knowing about the iPhone finder.  Without them I would still currently be phone less. :)
Today was Derick's sister Janell's birthday party.  It was a lot of fun! If you can't already tell by my previous blog posts, I love family time!
Happy Birthday Janell! Don't worry.. you aren't that old! ;)

Favorite part about this picture? Jackson's shoes.

After a month of getting our internet Derick and I have finally figured out how to get it to work.  Sort of...  my computer still needs to be plugged into the router.. or modem? I have no idea what it is called.  So, we haven't completely mastered the whole wireless internet thing, but it is a step!  At least I can get my homework done at home instead of going into work hoping it will be an extra slow night so I can get stuff done, or spend my whole day up on campus.   Not having internet has been kind of good for me.  I have definitely been more productive with my time, but I think it is a must during the school year.
well, Until next time!! :)

Currents

Some of my current loves:

.:The song Never Gonna Leave This Bed by Maroon 5.  I loved it before but now that I'm waking up to Derick's beautiful face every morning I can't help but want to listen to this song all the time.  It's kind of fitting to my life right now.  Sue me for being cheesy.  I don't really care.

.:My Mom.  Of course I have always loved her, but the past couple of days I have come too close to the reality that I will have to live my life without her someday.. That is if I do live a long, healthy life.  I don't know what I would do without her, and I hope I don't have to know for a very very long time.  I am so blessed to have her as my mom and to have her here with me today.

.:Hummus Pitas.

.:Derick's hugs

.:The show Malcolm in the middle.

.:My parents example of love.  After being married for 30 years my dad has still yet to leave the house without giving my mom a kiss goodbye or going to bed without giving her a kiss goodnight.  It warms my heart every single time I see it.

.:My awesome smoothie making skills.  Every smoothie I make is better than the last and I don't mind it one bit.

.:Fall.  I love Fall.  Everything about it.

.:Being a wife.  I love cleaning the house, and making sure dinner is on the table by the time Derick is home from work.  I love the crafts, and decorating our home.  I love everything about it.

.:The cooler weather

.:My wedding day pictures.  I can't stop looking at them!

What a Weekend.

It started out on Thursday evening with Derick calling from work and asking if I would like to sleep on the quad with him.  Apparently there was a big camp out up there to get wrist bands for the game the upcoming day.  I thought it sounded like fun, and his friend had already set up a tent for us so we wouldn't have to do much to get settled and comfy up there.  I had made dinner for when he got home from work at 9 so after we ate and packed up the blankets and pillows we would need, we left our house to go camping.  We first stopped at my sister's to ask if her and her husband wanted to come, but they were in the middle of making dinner (at 10:30) and they weren't quite sure what they would do with their dog, seeing as they didn't want to leave him home alone all night long.   We got up there and hung out for awhile with Derick's friends, and after an hour we decided we wanted to go lay down and watch a movie on my lap top.  We are turning into a boring married couple.  We honestly can't stay awake past midnight anymore.  I remember the good ol' days where I would gladly stay awake until the sun came up, and now the thought sounds like torture.   Anywho, the movie watching for me lasted 5 minutes before I decided I would rather be sleeping.  It would have been an easy night of sleep if I didn't happen to be laying on the lumpiest part of the quad, and if there wasn't a group of girls right behind our tent watching insidious and screaming literally every 2 minutes.  The movie isn't even scary!! I don't know.. something about a hooved man listening to "Tip Toe Through Tulips" doesn't exactly make me shiver in my boots.  Maybe I'm just extra brave or something ;). Around 3 o'clock someone let off a blow horn.  We had no idea when they would be passing out the wrist bands.  They told us it could be anytime, and this is why we were camping up there.  Right when the blow horn went off the silence was interrupted by hundreds of people running.  Turns out, someone was just pulling a prank.  A lot of people were pretty angry, but Derick and I found it pretty humorous.  At six o'clock we were really woken up to go receive our wristbands.  I was freezing and my back was killing me, I was surprised I had been sleeping as deep as I had been.  After we got our wristbands we packed everything up and went back home.   Derick had a 7:30 class so he had to shower and leave right after.  I didn't have class until 9:30 so I was able to get an extra hour of sleep in, but I ended up getting 3 extra hours of sleep because I forgot to set my alarm.  Oops.  I then worked for 5 hours and I went up to the stadium right the second I got off.   The atmosphere of the game was amazing.  We haven't beat the U in 15 years and there was a huge turn out from both sides, seeing as the U is only an hour and a half away.  It has never been much of a game because, lets face it, USU hasn't had the best football team over the past while, but this year we knew we finally stood a chance.
The game was amazing.  The first half USU was doing great.  We scored 2 touchdowns, without them scoring any.  Right before the end of the first half the U made a field goal.  (if that isn't what it is called excuse my horrible football terminology. )  The second half was a lot more intense.  The U was a lot more in their game.  They very quickly caught up to us.  We got one touch down ahead of them, but then with 3 minutes left of the game they caught back up.  I don't think I have ever felt so overwhelmed as I did when the U tried getting a field goal to win the game with only 2 seconds left.  My chest seriously felt like it was going to collapse.  It looked like the U had made the field goal ( I later found out they hadn't) but it didn't count because USU had called a time out right before the play was started.  The second try at the field goal was much worse.  Thank goodness.  We went into overtime and we made a touchdown! I have never ever felt the atmosphere as tense as it was when the U had a go at trying to get a touch down.  The stadium was going wild.  All 25,000 people inside of it.  It was 4th down and everyone was holding their breath. They. didn't. get. the touch. down.  The crowd went absolutely crazy!!! Everyone began rushing the field.  It was such an exciting moment! I am still not over the game and it is 3 days later.

After the game I had to go back to pita pit to get my stuff.  Holy cow.  I have never in my years seen pita pit sooo busy.  There was no walking space.  It took me 8 minutes to walk through the crowd to get to the back.  Only 2 people were scheduled but I guess right when it started getting busy someone called in my sister to help who only lives across the street.   Then my boss showed up to see if it was busy, he then stayed to help.  After that another employee came to help.  Me and Derick immediately went to work.  I grabbed the register and told my co-worker to go start making pitas.  I had Derick start refilling the veggies and get anything that anyone needed.  After we got there another employee showed up to see if we needed help.  I just have to throw this out there-- I work with amazing people.
Only 2 people were scheduled.  8 people ended up being there to help out with the rush, only 2 of which had been called in, one of which isn't even on payroll anymore.  Thank goodness to Derick being trained on how to work there  :).  We only have 10 people working at the place! I can't imagine that happening very many other places.  We all care about each other so much and we would never leave anyone to deal with that on their own.   To give an idea of how busy we were.  We made $1200 the two hours after the game ended, that is how much we make on a good day.  The amount we make in 14 hours we made in 2!
The next day I had a work meeting at 8, and then I had to open at 9.  I had someone come in for me at 11 so I could go to the historic home tour with my family.  This is our 4th year in a row doing this and we love it! I have seen so many beautiful houses around the valley.  I love seeing how these people have fixed up and renovated these old historic homes.  After the home tours we went to apple spice for lunch.  I was exhausted from all the excitement of the past couple of days so I then took a two hour long nap, and then cleaned my entire house before I had to go back to work.
Another thing about yesterday was it was Me and Derick's ONE month anniversary!! I honestly can't believe it has already been a month.  It kind of freaks me out how fast time is going.  I want to soak in every single second of our time together.  I love every single second we spend together.  I just love him.  Getting married to him was without a doubt the best decision I have and ever will make.  We were made for each other.  Cheesy I know, but I mean it!!
Today is Sunday! Love sundays.  I love going to church with Derick, and I love being able to spend time with both of our families.  No better time than family time:)

Happy Birthday to McKell (with a capital 'K')

I remember going over to her house with my mom when I was still in diapers and being jealous of her game closet, and her big front room.  I also remember the time when I was in 5th grade and her in 3rd and we went to the pool and spent the entire time watching a couple making out.  We couldn't believe people would be doing something so gross at all, let alone in public.  Or the time when I quit being her friend because she got a horse and I didn't.  I loved horses more than her so what made her more worthy to have one? Jealousy was at its finest.  We had spent hours and hours on bus rides home from school coming up with horse names and Iii had come up with the coolest names.  I deserved a horse more than her.  I guess you could say things got awkward but I was still her friend from a distance.  I mean I did buy numerous outfits that I had seen on her first and thought were cute, even if I had only seen them from a distance at church, or crossing the street after she got off the bus.  Friends always have the same outfits.  It was a little uncomfortable for me when we became friends again and I had to explain to her why we had all the same clothes, but she was ok with it and that is why she became my best friend.   It had been 6 years since we were friends when we both made vistauns.   We would carpool and she would always force me to get food at the gas station with her.  We never talked much besides that.  Slowly but surely, though, we got glued to the hip and realized we were very similar.  A lot of people didn't like us because we preferred having fun and not being boring.  Maybe they were jealous?  We didn't see why people would be bothered by us pinning them down on the floor so we could kiss them, or us not caring if the team was good, and dance as spastically as we could.  Why would people get so upset about us walking around with our pants and underwear halfway down our bums?  We had come to the conclusion that everyone was only out to get us.  I graduated and we have dealt with much distance, me moving to florida for 7 months, and her moving to hawaii for a whole year, but we are still the best of friends and to celebrate her 20th birthday I would like to share 20 of my favorite memories with her.

1.  That one time we went ice skating in life jackets.  Gotta be careful in case that ice melts
2.  When we would tell people we were leaving their house, but sneak back in and hide in their closet all night and spy on them.
3.  Randomly freaking out because we wonder "what if you were only my imaginary friend and I was doing all this by myself?...." It is a scary thought.
4. Jumping into 1st dam on my 20th birthday. C Hess! (jk this is my worst memory.)
5. Asking boys to hang out with us and when they show up we are wearing this....

6.  Putting flyers from events that happened over 2 years ago on every car on campus, movie theater parking lots, and wal mart.
7.  When we rode our bikes all the way to Brigham City and had to hitch hike home because we were too tired.
8.  Asking someone on a double date and have them show up to find out they are on a date with both of us...
9.  Driving around the truckers at Arby's blasting Christmas music and Opera.
10.  Pretending we are homeless at the front of Wal-mart and asking for money.

11. That one time McKell was dumped by two guys she didn't even know she was dating... all within 3 days of each other
12.  Slumber party for vistauns when everyone slept on the floor and we took the King sized bed in the guest room.
13.  Going to a hang out of all Logan High people and telling them I go to Logan high and starting to cry and say I am a really big Loner when they all claim not to know me.  I think they felt pretty bad.
14.  Going places dressed up as twins.

15. The phase we went through where we couldn't go to wal-mart without taking a picture with this sign.

16.  Going to Harry potter Midnight showing and passing Beth a note that said 'Avada Kedavra' through 30 people waiting in line.

17.  Creating a Hand shake that no one was ever ever allowed to copy!!!
18.  Slumber Party the night before Derick came home from his mission!
19.  Promising ourselves and each other we are going to act normal when hanging out with other people but always failing miserably..
20.  And all the many many others:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
You are my bestest Friend every.  Don't drown in Hawaii or get eaten by a shark.. Unless you do it for attention. Then it is ok:D :D :/ <3 xoxoxo  love you!
