My weekend started out early when me, and two of my sister's went to the Train concert with my mom.
Something to know about my mom: When she likes something, she tends to really over do it. I Want It That Way by The Backstreet Boys, will forever remind me of my childhood saturdays because she would listen to it on repeat while she cleaned the entire house. She went through a phase where she watched You've Got Mail literally every single day, for over a month. Well as of lately she has been obsessed with the song Hey, Soul Sister. To the point where I used to love the song, but from going over to my parents once a week I ended up getting sick of it. Last spring she had texted me and all of my sisters saying "Train is coming to Salt Lake!!!" I'm sure all of us rolled our eyes when we read this text and put the phone down. Come July though, we were all racking our brains on what to get her for her Birthday. That is when my sister remembered the Train concert. Of course it was obvious what a good gift for her would be. We all bought tickets for ourselves and her, and decided it would be a fun night out on the town. She was ecstatic to get the tickets! The concert was held on September 20th, the day before Derick's birthday. It was so much fun! It was a blast to see my mom so excited over all of the songs, and dancing like there was no tomorrow. My sister filmed some great videos, I will have to put them up here once I get a hold of them.
My phone had died during the concert, and I knew we would be getting home after midnight. I was sad that I wouldn't be able to call Derick right at 12 and wish him a happy birthday. I decided there was no way I could walk through the door empty handed. When I had dropped everyone off at their cars, I drove to the store and picked up some cheesecake, which is Derick's favorite, and sparkling apple cider. When I got home we started the day off right by eating an entire cheesecake at one in the morning, and talking about our day.
The next morning I woke up at 6:30 to make Derick breakfast before he had to leave for his 7:30 class. He was so excited about it, he made me sing Happy Birthday all by myself (awkward) and then he insisted one of the candles stay lit the entire time he ate. He held the lit candle in one hand and maneuvered his fork with the other. Sometimes I feel like I am married to a toddler, but I love it. He is so cute and keeps my life interesting.
When Derick and I got home from school I made sure we walked through the door with another surprise waiting for him. I had bought 22 balloons and tied 1 reasons why I love him on each balloon.
This idea was a success.. until Derick turned on the ceiling fan a few hours later and went upstairs. I was in the kitchen when I heard the explosions begin. Luckily, both of us made it to the light fixture in time to save 18 of the 22 balloons.
Besides spending 2.5 hours on our Econ homework, the rest of the day was great! It consisted of:
-Getting free lunch at Olive Garden
-Opening gifts (Derick got new bindings for his skis, Real Salt Lake tickets, socks, and a new Jacket.)
-A 2 hour long nap
-Getting Lost in the Corn Maze with no Care in the world to get out as fast as we could.
-Dinner at Village Inn at 12:30 in the Morning
-A slumber party on our living room floor with all the blankets and pillows we own, while falling asleep to a movie.
The next day the birthday celebration continued! We drove down to salt lake and ate lunch at The Pie Pizzaria, and then we went to a Real Salt Lake soccer game. The game was so much fun! We got great seats, and the team won so that was a plus. I have really missed going to soccer games. I was Derick's number one fan in high school, and I haven't gone to a soccer game since then. This was only my second time going to a Real Salt Lake game. I really need to go to more!
After the game we drove to temple square and walked around for a little. What a beautiful place. I will never ever get sick of walking around there.
Shortly after we left Salt Lake we decided we needed a bathroom break, so we stopped in Bountiful where we found a restroom. We then went and got some Baskin Robins and ate it up by the Bountiful Temple. Two temples in one night, one of which I have never been to before. Bountiful temple is beautiful as it would be expected. I loved sitting up there with Derick at 11 at night looking at something so amazing. I have always had this goal, but it was that moment I decided I have to visit as many temples as physically possible. At least all the temples in Utah. It is such a holy place, where everything bad in your life suddenly feels like something very small. Even just being on Temple grounds helps me see the big picture. Actually going inside is something even more extraordinary.
It was very fitting that the next day happened to be the Brigham City Temple dedication. I have such a strong testimony about Temples, and Temple work. What an amazing thing it is that I can be with my family for eternity. What an amazing church I am apart of, that makes it a goal so that not only we can be with our families for forever, but that everyone can be with their families for forever. I am proud to be a part of the most unselfish church.
After the temple dedication Derick and I made our first official Sunday dinner at our home. We usually go out to my parents for lunch, but my mom has been sick, and didn't get around to making lunch, so we decided to make our own little meal! A few hours later we went and enjoyed some more good food at Derick's parents house. I am so grateful to be living so close to both of our families. We are very lucky to be able to see both of our families on a typical sunday.
When we got home from dinner we invited over a couple of our "couple" friends and watched the hunger games.
Such a great weekend! I wish every weekend could be like this past one. It seems now that Derick and I are married it is hard to find a lot of time to just ourselves, but this weekend was completely full of 'us' time. When I had asked Derick what he wanted to do for his birthday he simply said "I want to spend time with you." That was the perfect answer because I wouldn't have had it any other way.
